Water Safety Class Details

This course provides instructor candidates with the necessary skills to teach the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program.

COURSE PREREQUISITES: 

  • $225 Class Cost ($100 non-refundable deposit required to register)
  • Minimum age of 16. (proof of age must be brought to the first class).
  • Successfully complete 25 yards of the following six strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to float for 1 minute in deep water.
  • Attend all class sessions.

ADDITIONAL CLASS DETAILS:

  • Students will receive the WSI manual.
  • Students must receive an 80% on the written exam.
  • Students must pass a skills practical exam by performing skills to the required standard.
  • Certification is valid for 2 years.
  • Participation in this class does not guarantee certification.

Lifeguard Class Details

PREREQUISITES:

  • $225 Class Cost ($100 non-refundable deposit required to register)
  • 15 years of age before completion of the class. (proof of age must be brought to the first class)
  • Comfortably pass the swim test

SWIM TEST

1. 300-yard untimed continuous swim using Front Crawl, and or Breast Stroke.

2. Object retrieval. Swim 20 yards and surface dive to a depth of 12 feet retrieve a 10-pound object and swim 20 yards returning it to the side of the pool within 1 minute and 40 seconds. (goggles are not allowed)

3. Tread water using only the legs for two minutes. Candidates should place their hands under their armpits.

Please be aware that these skills are required to participate in the class. All students should be confident in water as these skills are the foundation for the class.

EXTRAS:

  • Students will receive the lifeguarding manual and a pocket rescue mask.
  • Students must receive an 80% on both written exams.
  • Students must pass a practical exam by performing vital skills to the required standard.
  • Certification is valid for 2 years.
  • Participation in this class does not guarantee certification.
  • A minimum of 6 participants is required to operate the Lifeguard Class.  Any registered participants in the class will be contacted 8 days out from the 1st day of class to reschedule if the minimum number is not met.

Re-certification details

PREREQUISITES:

  • Class price $115
  • Must hold a current Lifeguard Certification (cannot re-certify after the expiration date of the original certification)
  • Comfortably pass the swim test
  • Bring your own Lifeguard book and pocket rescue mask
