Choptima CCR Diver
Choptima CCR Diver Certification
Enter the world of closed-circuit diving
Take the next step beyond traditional scuba and become a certified closed-circuit rebreather diver using the Choptima CCR from Dive Rite at Aquatic Adventures Ohio.
This course provides the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to safely plan and execute dives using a fully closed-circuit system. You’ll learn not just how to dive a CCR—but how to think like a rebreather diver.

What is CCR Diving?
Closed-Circuit Rebreathers (CCR) recycle your breathing gas by removing carbon dioxide and adding oxygen as needed. Compared to open-circuit scuba, CCR offers:
- Dramatically extended dive times
- Exceptional gas efficiency
- Silent operation (no bubbles)
- Optimized breathing gas at depth
- Increased decompression efficiency (in advanced training)
The Choptima platform offers a streamlined, chest-mounted design that enhances accessibility and diver awareness.
Course Overview
This course trains divers to safely use and maintain a TDI-approved rebreather system in both confined and open water environments.
Training Includes:
- Academic development
- Confined water (pool) training
- Open water dives
Typical Duration:
- 5 days depending on schedule and progression
What You’ll Learn
Academic Topics
- CCR theory and physiology
- Oxygen exposure limits and CNS tracking
- Carbon dioxide management
- Loop dynamics and gas metabolism
- Equipment configuration and function
- Dive planning and emergency procedures
Practical Skills
- Unit assembly and pre-dive checks
- Proper loop management and buoyancy control
- PO₂ monitoring and manual control
- Emergency drills (bailout procedures, failures)
- Post-dive maintenance and breakdown
Confined Water Training
Conducted in controlled, pool-like conditions:
- Skill development and repetition
- Emergency procedure mastery
- Buoyancy and trim refinement on CCR
- Direct instructor supervision
Open Water Training
Students will complete a series of open water dives to demonstrate competency:
- Minimum number of dives per TDI standards
- Progressive skill application
- Real-world dive planning and execution
- Emphasis on situational awareness and problem solving
Student Prerequisites
To enroll, students must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Minium Certification:
- Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
-
SDI Nitrox Diver (or equivalent) (Advanced Nitrox recommended)
-
Have a minimum of 40 logged dives
- Be in good physical condition for diving
-
Demonstrate strong foundational buoyancy and awareness
-
Pre-training assessment dive with your Choptima Instructor Tim Brown
Certification
Upon successful completion, graduates will earn:
- TDI CCR Diver Certification (Air Diluent)
This certification qualifies divers to:
- Dive the Choptima unit trained on
- Conduct no-decompression CCR dives within training limits
- Progress into advanced CCR and decompression training
