About Diving with Dive Paradise
Dive Paradise has grown into one of Cozumel’s most respected dive facilities and is recognized as the #1 dive operator on the island. Owing to its excellent record of diver safety and personal attention to client needs, Dive Paradise has been featured many times in Skin Diver Magazine, selected by Rodale’s Scuba Diving magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards as the “Most Popular Dive Operator in the World” three consecutive years.
Our standard morning dive trips are “Caribbean” style. They utilize a big boat and include a snack, purified water, 80 cu ft tanks, weights, & belt. We’ll make two drift dives on Cozumel’s legendary reefs. Boats begin pick-ups at 8:30am and return between 1:00 and 2:00pm.
At Dive Paradise, we entrust guests to the care of our certified, in-water Divemasters. Their goal is to guide you on safe, pleasurable dives along the reefs.
The dive gear storage lockers are conveniently located right by the rinse tanks; keys for the lockers are available from the Dive Paradise dive center when guests check in. The lockers are quite large, plenty big enough for a full set of equipment. We have hangers for wetsuits and racks and pegs for BCDs, fins, booties, etc., after you've dunked your equipment. We suggest storing it in the locker overnight, as the area is public. Each room at the resort also has pegs and bars on the balcony or patio for drying gear you do not wish to leave in the locker.
Details for the day of cenote diving ~ The cenote dives are on the mainland; we have a Dive Paradise staff member in Playa to facilitate our guests' trips to the cenotes. Divers take the 6 AM ferry from Cozumel to Playa; the trip is about 45 minutes. The round-trip ferry ticket is currently USD $26; cash and credit cards are accepted and may be purchased at the ferry dock the morning of your trip. Plan to be at the ferry dock at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time ~ it will take about 10-15 minutes by taxi from Cozumel Hotel to the ferry dock. When you have disembarked at Playa, our Dive Paradise staff member will greet you at the Senor Frogs at the end of the concrete dock, transport you to the cenotes and return you to the ferry dock following the dives. When the ferry docks on Cozumel, there is a queue of taxis on the waterfront boulevard ~ let the dispatcher know you need to go to the Cozumel Hotel.
The temp does not vary much, most cenotes are between 76-78 degrees F.
Maximum depth will be between 35-40 feet, and each dive will be about 45 minutes. The van will park at picnic benches, where you gear up, then walk to the stairs that descend to the entrance to the cenote ~ bring wetsuit booties or some substantial shoes to wear for the walk, as it's bare ground with pebbles, etc.
The staff is amenable to stopping for lunch or snacks & beverages on the way back to Playa. We suggest bringing a bottle or two of water, and snacks that need no refrigeration to tide you over. Bring a bit of cash for lunch or snacks (and to treat your guide), and gratuities you may wish to leave for the staff.
