GI-Bill SDI Open Water Scuba Diver
Open Water Certification Class
Unlock the door to the underwater world with the Open Water Scuba Diver certification, through Scuba Diving International (SDI), your first step into scuba diving freedom. Learn online at your pace, develop skills in the pool, and experience the thrill of open-water dives, as you earn a passport to dive the globe.
The Open Water Certification has 3 parts:
- 10 hours of eLearning, at your own pace, due 2 days before class starts. You will get access to your eLearning as soon as you sign up
- 12 hours of in-person instruction and pool training over 1 weekend - please pick from the options below
- 4 open water certification dives that we will help you schedule with us.
We are the only dive center in Central Ohio where you can complete part 2 in just one weekend. Please choose from the options below or give us a call to book at 614-545-DIVE.
All the required gear is included in the cost of the class with the exception of boots, fins, mask and snorkel. Stop in to see us at the shop and you will receive 10% off these items.
The last step in completing your SDI Open Water Certification. Your open water dives will take place over 2 days and will consist of at least 4 dives at a local quarry.
Open water season to finalize your certification in Ohio runs May through October. During the months of November through April, you can join us for a trip to a tropical destination or we can provide a referral for you to complete your certification on your own trip. Any referral certification trips will incur added costs that the GI-Bill will not reimburse you.

No one other than Open Water students are permitted to dive with the class, there are no exceptions to this policy.
